Electroplating, dip galvanising, spray and rolled coatings are some of the many finishes applied to fasteners. Not fully appreciated are the additional costs incurred to take unfinished fasteners to the coated state.

Initially, Fasteners will be removed from their existing packaging for the coater; this means added cost. The oil-damaged packaging needs to be disposed of/recycled; many companies charge for the removal of this oil-damaged product and paper bailing to reduce the cost is time-consuming. Transport to and from the coaters is another charge that many companies pay. On return the finished product needs to be repackaged, an extensive labour cost. The goods need to have an identification labelled, again yet another cost.
